Lost and Found

If your pet is missing, or you have found an animal, feel free to send the details to us  and we will add them to this page so that others may help spread the word, keep an eye out, and hopefully help them find their way home.

Whether you are searching for your friend, or have found a lost animal, you should contact the following places.

Local Shelters (in Melbourne: Lost Dogs' Home, 9329 2755; Lort Smith Animal Hospital, 9328 3021; Save-A-Dog, 9824 7928; Keysborough Animal Shelter, 9798 8415; RSPCA, 9224 2222).

Local and neighbouring councils - phone numbers can be found online and in the phone book.  Not all shires have a Ranger but they can tell you which shelter they send animals to.

Nearby vets, including animal hospitals/emergency centres.

Pet supply shops - these will sometimes have a noticeboard you can put a flyer on, but also chat with the staff in case anybody has mentioned anything to them.

Pets Haven - a shelter whose website includes listings of lost and found animals across Victoria.  Also check their facebook page for postings.

See also the
lost and found section of the Lost Dogs' Home for more suggestions and a noticeboard of missing animals.

Make sure you give a thorough description (better yet, a photo) as some animals are recorded at pounds as incorrect breeds and therefore not matched up to inquiries.  Call or go into the shelters every day as there could be delays in animals getting there, or in being recorded.  If your dog is missing, keep going to your regular parks/walking route to check for them there, but also to ask other people there to keep a look out for them.  If your missing animal is a cat, bird, rabbit, lizard etc, ask people to check their garden sheds and other outdoor areas as well as their yards, because they will often slip in there unnoticed and get accidentally locked in.

See the
Tips page for some suggestions on keeping animals calm during storms and fireworks, lessening the chances of them running away in fear.
